Long Ball Featured in Cross Creek Classic; Other Softball Scores from Friday

The Borries twins each hit two-run homers and formed a talented battery as Teutopolis defeated St. Anthony 14-6 in the first-ever Cross Creek Classic softball game Friday.  The game at Evergreen Hollow Park was heard on 979XFM.

A seven-run fourth inning gave the Lady Shoes a 12-1 lead before St. Anthony began a comeback to make things interesting.  The Shoes scored twice in the second on a double, walk and single and then added three runs in the third on a walk, a fielder's choice and a two-run homer by Anni Borries followed by a walk and a triple by Tara Stephens.  Then came the big fourth inning featuring a single, a double, back-to-back singles, a walk and a double along with an error on a fly ball.

St. Anthony scored in the second on an error, back-to-back singles and an error.  They plated a run in the fourth on three singles and a walk, and then scored twice on a single, double and single.  The Bulldogs made it a 12-6 game in the sixth on a walk and a two-run homer by Makayla Walsh.

Teutopolis scored its last two runs in the seventh on an error and a two-run blast to dead center field by Kadi Borries that easily cleared the 250-foot sign.

Meghan Woltman took the loss for St. Anthony, allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on nine hits while walking two and fanning a pair.  Makayla Walsh pitched the final 2-2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits while walking one and fanning two.

Kadi Borries went the distance for Teutopolis, allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits while striking out 13 batters against four walks.

At the plate for Teutopolis, Kadi Borries doubled to go with her homer, Dakota Swingler singled, Anni Borries singled twice in addition to her home run and drove in two runs, Madison Cowman singled and walked, Allison Apke doubled and walked, Tara Stephens singled, Danielle Repking singled, and Julie Wente singled.

For St. Anthony, Makayla Walsh singled in addition to her homer, Kristen Schuette doubled, Kate Richards singled twice, Hunter Niebrugge had three base hits, Meghan Woltman singled and walked, and Megan Nuxoll singled.

Altamont won over Newton 11-1 in six innings Friday.

Deidre Ledbetter went the distance for Altamont, allowing one earned run on four hits while walking two and fanning nine.  Karsyn McCoy took the loss for Newton, allowing seven runs but just two earned on seven hits in three innings' work, striking out six.  Cheyenne Nail pitched the final 2-2/3 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits.

Madison Ohnesorge doubled and singled twice and scored three times for Altamont.  Deidre Ledbetter backed up her pitching with four base hits, driving in five runs and scoring a run.  Lauren Ohnesorge singled and scored.  Lauren White tripled and scored twice.  Gabby Alwardt doubled and singled and drove home two while scoring a run.  Alex Teasley scored a run.  Joleen Northrup singled twice, scored twice and drove home two runs.

For Newton, Emilee Johnson singled and scored, Brooke Koebele singled, Brittany Fore singled and drove home the only Newton run, and Keidrah Hardiek singled.
