Bulldogs Capture Narrow Victory; Area Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Newton and edged the Eagles 8-7 with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Newton held a 2-0 lead after five innings then pushed that lead to 5-0 in the top of the sixth. However, St. Anthony came roaring back to knot the score with a five-run bottom of the sixth. The game went into extra innings and Newton took a 7-5 lead in the top of the eighth and looked like the winner.

But here came St. Anthony, scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out the win. The Bulldogs banged out 11 hits but had five errors in the game. Hunter Niebrugge led the Bulldogs with two singles, a double and three RBI. Paige Koester had two singles, a double and an RBI. Makayla Walsh had two singles and an RBI.

Newton was led by Ke. Hardiek with two singles, a triple and four RBI while Ka. Hardiek had three singles and an RBI and Jansen four singles.

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick trounced Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 20-7 in five innings. The winners had seven hits in the game and were aided by nine Christ Our Rock errors.

The Eagles led 6-0 after the first inning then had a seven-run inning in the second and third frames. Alicia Adams had two singles and two RBI. Kirby Herrmann and Heather Reed had a double each. Herrmann had one RBI and Reed three RBI. Amanda Pierce had a triple.

Teutopolis' K. Borries had a single, double, home run and drove in two runs as the Wooden Shoes beat Greenville 8-4.

Borries also picked up the pitching win on a 10-hitter with four runs, one walk and 10 strikeouts. A. Apke had a double and an RBI for T-town.

Altamont bounced Vandalia to the tune of 12-2 in six innings.

The Indians had a seven-run second and led 9-0 after three innings then tacked on a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Altamont had 10 hits in the contest led by Josie Phillips, Gabby Alwardt and Joleen Northrup with two singles each. Phillips knocked in four runs while Alwardt and Northrup had one each.

Windsor's Lindsay Floyd tossed a no-hitter as the Blue Devils blanked Pana 10-0 in six innings. Windsor took a 4-0 second inning lead and never looked back.

Floyd went six innings, allowing no hits, no runs, no walks and striking out 14. Whitney Kuhl had a single and two RBI while Kassy Strowmatt had a single and double. The Blue Devils improved to 4-4.

Shelbyville banged out 14 runs to down Stewardson-Strasburg 14-4 in seven innings. The Rams had 13 hits in the contest while holding the Comets to four hits.

The Rams led 7-2 after three innings and 10-4 after six then had a four-run seventh.

Stew-Stras was led by Schultz with a single, double and two RBI.
