Teutopolis Opens Softball Season With Victory

Teutopolis High School opened its softball season with an 8-2 victory over Sullivan Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and led 5-2 after four innings then tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Madison Cowman picked up the pitching win going five innings, allowing four hits, two runs, one walk and striking out four.

Leading T-town offensively were Kadi Borries with a single, double, triple and an RBI. Annie Borries added a double, home run and three RBI. Allison Apke had a double and an RBI, Tara Stephens a single and an RBI and Holly Dust a single and two RBI.

"This was a nice team win to start the season off," said T-town Coach Rich Niebrugge. "I was real happy with a lot of what I saw out there tonight from many different girls."

T-town's junior varsity played Sullivan three innings and won 3-0.

T-town is back in action today hosting Dieterich.

At Windsor

Shelbyville shut out Windsor 6-0 in the season opener for both squads. Grace Moll pitched the win, allowing two walks and striking out 12.

Bailey Tabor got the lone hit for Windsor. Moll also was the big hitter for the winners with three singles and a double. Martin had two singles, a double and an RBI.

At Toledo

Cumberland bounced Marshall 13-4 in its opener Thursday.

The Pirates broke a 1-1 first inning tie with eight runs in the third and led 12-1 after six. Cumberland banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Casey with two singles, a double and two RBI. Titus had a single, a home run and an RBI. Plummer added a double and three RBI.

Katie Poe was the winning pticher allowing six hits, one walk and striking out three.
