CASEY -- Teutopolis Junior High School edged Effingham St. Anthony 1-0 in the Class A Casey-Westfield Softball Regional Saturday.

The lone run in the contest came in the bottom of the seventh. The Wooden Shoes had only three hits led by Probst, Hardiek and Deters with a single each. Gibson had the lone RBI.

The Bullpups were led by Guy with three singles and Faber with two singles.

Probst was the winning pitcher on a seven-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts.

In the other Saturday contest, Casey-Westfield defeated Cumberland 9-4.

Teutopolis will face Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. today for the championship.

At Altamont

South Central and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will meet for the championship of the Class A Altamont Regional.

South Central defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 10-4 while Windsor/Stew-Stras was a 13-1 winner over Findlay Okaw Valley.

South Central meets WSS at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship.

 

At Newton

Effingham will be playing for the Class 2A Newton Jasper County Regional title today after picking up a victory Saturday.

The Mustangs downed Paris Mayo 8-3. Effingham took a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on one in the second and two in the third to lead 4-3. The Mustangs then put the game away with a three-run fourth and tallied a final run in the fifth.

Bushur had three singles, a triple and an RBI for the Mustangs. She was the lone player to get multiple hits.

Beck threw a six-hitter with four walks and three strikeouts.

In the other contest Saturday, Red Hill (Bridgeport) blanked Charleston 5-0.

Effingham meets Red Hill at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional title.
