CASEY -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School pounded Oblong in opening round play of the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Softball Regional Wednesday.

The Bullpups held a 3-1 first inning lead then broke loose with 11 runs in the second and went on for a 16-1 victory.

Guy had a big night with a triple, two home runs and five RBI. Karolewicz had a single, double and an RBI and Fearday two singles and an RBI.

Fearday threw a one-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts.

In the second contest, Teutopolis blanked Clay City 12-0.

The opening game went to Cumberland over Martinsville 7-1.

St. Anthony and Teutopolis will now square off at 11:45 a.m. Saturday for the right to advance to the championship game Monday. Cumberland will meet top-seeded Casey-Westfield at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Class 1A Altamont Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Ramsey 8-7 to advance in the Class 1A Altamont Regional Wednesday.

CHBC led 6-3 after four innings. In the fifth, Ramsey tallied two runs to pull within 6-5. CHBC scored one in the sixth to lead 7-5. Ramsey then tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into the eighth. CHBC then scored for the win.

Hallye Morrison had a single and double for the winners while Gracie Heckert had a triple and Kylie Doty two singles.

In the second game, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg stepped out to an 11-0 first inning lead and never looked back for an 18-4 victory in three innings over Altamont.

WSS had eight hits led by Hayes with a single and home run, Bean with a double and triple and Kinkelaar with a double.

Altamont had six hits, all singles by six different players. Altamont ends the season at 0-17.

The final game went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over Vandalia 9-1.

Saturday's games feature South Central against CHBC at 9 a.m. followed by Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against Findlay Okaw Valley at 11.

Class 2A Jasper County Regional

Jasper County hosted a regional and unfortunately for the homestanders, they went down to defeat at the hands of Paris Mayo 11-9.

In the second contest, Charleston blanked Lawrenceville Parkview, 15-0. Red Hill (Bridgeport) finished out with a 9-1 victory over Vandalia.

In Saturday play, Effingham will meet Paris Mayo at noon followed by Charleston against Red Hill at 1:30.
