Effingham Junior High School claimed an 11-7 win over Charleston in girls softball competition Monday.

The pair played to a 3-3 opening inning tie. The Mustangs then took a 9-4 lead in the second quarter and tallied two more in the third.

Althoff had three singles and an RBI for Effingham while Bushur had a single, triple and two RBI, Beck a single, double and two RBI, Budde two singles and Cunningham a double.

At Altamont

South Central tallied a whopping 24 runs in a 24-1 victory over Altamont Monday.

The Falcons scored 11 in the opening inning and the game ended after three. Halle Smith and Taegan Webster combined to throw a no-hitter. Smith went one inning, allowing two walks and striking out two while Webster went the second and third innings, allowing three walks and striking out four.

Brooklyn Garrett had two home runs and four RBI while Sierra Arnold had two doubles and three RBI, Weber three singles and two RBI, Jaylyn Michel a home run and four RBI, Macey Potter two singles and two RBI and Lily Malone a triple and an RBI.

Williams had the lone RBI for Altamont. The squad drops to 0-13.

At Martinsville

Martinsville captured a doubleheader over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

In the opener, Martinsville edged CHBC 8-7, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

CHBC had six hits led by Tatyana Duckwitz with two singles, a double and an RBI. Mady Wojcik had two singles and two RBI.

In the second contest, Martinsville again had a one run win, this time 9-8. CHBC took an 8-0 lead until the third when Martinsville scored four then tallied four more in the fourth to tie the score. The winning run came in the fifth.

CHBC had four hits led by Wojcik with two singles and two RBI. Kylie Doty had a double and three RBI. CHBC is 3-13 on the season.
