Bulldogs Season Ends, Area Regional Softball Roundup

TOLEDO -- Effingham St. Anthony High School saw its softball season come to an end with an 8-3 loss to Neoga in the Class 1A Cumberland Regional Tuesday.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 first inning lead and tacked on two more in the fourth. Neoga pulled within 3-2 in the top of the fifth then broke the game wide open with a six-run seventh.

The Indians had 14 hits in the contest led by Gentry with a single, double and an RBI, Partlow with four singles, Titus with three singles, Estray with two singles and Lee with a double and two RBI.

Titus picked up the pitching win, throwing a five-hitter with five walks and two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs L. Day had two singles while Kabbes and Gibson had a double each. Gibson added an RBI.

In the opening game of the day, Cumberland trounced Dieterich 17-0. Dunaway threw a four inning perfect game. Dunaway had six strikeouts and improved her record to 13-6.

The Pirates took a 4-0 first inning lead then had an 11-run second and finished out with two in the third to end the game in the fourth. Guyon had four singles and three RBI, Oakley a single and triple, Dunaway a single, double and three RBI, Hendrix a triple and two RBI, Oakley a double and Green two singles and two RBI.

The Pirates improve to 17-9. Cumberland meets Neoga Saturday for the regional champoinship at 11 a.m.

At Altamont

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Ramsey 16-0 in the first game Tuesday at the Class 1A Altamont Regional.

The Hatchets' Roney threw a no-hitter with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

WSS had a 2-0 first inning lead then brought home 10 runs in the second and finished out with four in the third.

Rentfrow had a double, triple and an RBI while Schlechte had two singles and two RBI, Reynolds two singles and Davis two singles and two RBI. The Hatchets improve to 26-4 on the season and are ranked sixth in the latest Class 1A ICA poll.

In the second game of the day, Altamont edged Brownstown/Elmo 9-8 in nine innings.

SEB took a 1-0 first inning lead but Altamont tied in the second. SEB went ahead 5-2 in the fourth. Altamont came back with two in the fifth. The score was tied at 6-6 in the seventh sending the game into extra innings. Both teams scored a run in the eighth.  SEB took an 8-6 lead in the top of the ninth but the Indians came back with two runs to pull out the victory.

Altamont was led by Mette with a single, double, triple and two RBI, Biggs with two singles, a double and two RBI, Goeckner with a single and double, Grimsley with two singles and Stone with a double and two RBI. The Indians are now 12-14 on the season.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brown with two singles, a home run and one RBI, Nolen with three singles and Parkinson with two singles and two RBI.

Altamont will now face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

At Woodlawn

Woodlawn claimed a victory in its own Class 1A Regional Tuesday. Woodlawn blanked Webber Township (Bluford) 10-0.

Today's game features Clay City Co-op taking on South Central at 4:30 p.m.

Woodlawn will face the winner of that game Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.

 

At  Teutopolis

Flora blasted Lawrenceville 14-0 in action at the Class 2A Teutopolis Regional Tuesday.

In today's action, Teutopolis takes on Robinson at 4:30 p.m. The winner advances to the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m. against Flora.

 

At Casey

Tuscola downed Marshall in the Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional.

Tuscola advances to face either Newton or Casey-Westfield at 11 a.m. Saturday. Those two teams will meet today at 4:30 p.m.
