Altamont, Newton, C'land, WSS Claim Softball Wins

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School ended this game in the fifth via the 10-run rule by blanking Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 11-0 in softball play Thursday.

Altamont edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a two-run second, a five-run third and a three-run fourth.

Mette and Shyrock had a single, double and three RBI each for the Indians.

CHBC was led by Wheeler and Kirchhofer with a single each.

Shryock threw the two-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts. The Indians improve to 3-0 in the National Trail Conference and 5-5 overall.

At Toledo

Cumberland took a 4-0 first inning lead and went on for a 7-2 win over Neoga Thursday.

The Pirates had eight hits in the contest led by Sowers and McMechan with two singles each. Sowers added two RBI. Hendrix had a triple and drove in two runs.

Neoga was led by Kelly Partlow with two singles, Elizabeth Titus with a triple and Cheyenne Vondrak with a double.

At Toledo

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 7-3 win over Teutopolis Thursday.

The Hatchets held a 2-0 first inning lead and tallied two more in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

WSS had seven hits in the contest led by Cole with a single, double and an RBI. Calla Roney threw a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

T-town was led by Brumleve with a double and RBI.

Newton broke a 2-2 tie with a single run in the fifth for a 3-2 win over Marshall Thursday.

Both teams had four hits. Olivia Shipman had a single and drove in two runs for the Eagles.

Kristen Hardiek went 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, two walks and strirking out three in picking up the pitching win.
