Walks were the difference Tuesday evening as Mattoon came calling at Effingham Junior High School and took home an 18-6 softball win.

The Mustangs held a 2-1 lead after the first inning but Mattoon came back with a six-run second and a five-run third to put the contest away.

"It is difficult to win when your pitchers give up 15 walks," said EJHS Coach Megan Whitacre. "It just wasn't our night when it came to pitching. We did very well at the plate putting up 11 hits. However, we left too many people on base."

Carsyn Fearday had three singles and an RBI while Lauren Douthit had two singles and a double to lead the Mustangs.
