Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School traveled to Mattoon and fell to the homestanders 5-3 in softball competition Thursday.
The Bullpups took a 2-1 first inning lead but Mattoon tied in the second. The Wildcats moved ahead with a run in the fourth. St. Anthony tied in the top of the fifth but, once again, Mattoon pushed ahead in the bottom of the frame 4-3 then scored a final run in the sixth.

At Effingham
Teutopolis and Effingham split a doubleheader Thursday. Effingham won the eighth-grade contest 17-7. The Mustangs stepped out to a 8-2 lead in the second and had 15 hits in the contest.
Miranda Fox had a single and triple for Effingham while Carsyn Fearday had two singles, a double and an RBI. Skyler Schafer had three singles and four RBI while Chloe Funneman had a double and two RBI. Kiyah Kuhlman had a single and two RBI and Morgan Krouse and Kaitlyn Kinkelaar had two singles each.
In the seventh-grade contest, T-town was an 8-5 winner over Effingham. Maddy Stortzum had a single and drove in a run while Mikayla Allie, Kennedy Collier, Emma Huss, Emma Budde and Olivia Martin had an RBI for the winners.
