EJHS Wins Tuesday Contest, Loses In Wednesday Game

Effingham Junior High School claimed a victory Tuesday but fell in action Wednesday in softball competition.

The Mustangs edged Paris Crestwood 9-8 Tuesday. Crestwood held a 2-1 lead until the third when the Mustangs tallied three runs to take the lead. Paris Crestwood came back and tied the score in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

Paris pushed ahead 8-6 in the top of the eighth but Effingham fought back to score three runs and pull out the win in the bottom of the inning. Kiyah Kuhlman laid down a bunt for a singleto start the eighth. With the bases loaded, Abbi Burgess hit a walk-off single, scoring Morgan Krouse for the win.

Carsyn Fearday had three singles while Miranda Fox hit a solo home run.

In Wednesday play, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and went on for an 11-2 win over the Mustangs.

Effingham tallied its lone two runs in the fifth. Effingham had only four hits while Windsor/S-S had 10. Fearday led the Mustangs with two singles and Fox again had an inside-the-park home run.

"A strong Windsor pitcher held us to four hits," said EJHS Coach Megan Whitacre.

In a seventh-grade contest, Effingham beat Windsor/Stew-Stras 10-4. Chloe Funneman had a triple and an RBI for the Mustangs.
