Shelbyville 16U Softball Team Competes in Nationals

The Shelbyville Lady Lakers 16U softball team traveled to Columbus, Wisconsin recently to compete in the 16U Class B Northern Nationals. The Lakers started by going 0-2 in pool play. They opened tournament play with a 9-7 win over Seymour, Wis. with Madison Boone getting the win. The Lakers then lost 5-2 to Stevens Point, Wis., the No. 3 team from Wisconsin, with Kendall Knop taking the loss.

The Lakers defeated Brandon, South Dakota, 11-3 with Boone getting the win. Next they defeated St. Louis Illusion, the Metro area champions, 9-0 with Knop picking up the win. In the final game, the Lakers lost to Rochester, Minnesota 2-0 and were eliminated finishing 16th out of 48 teams. Boone took the loss.

Players on the team and their batting averages for the tournament were Knop (.227), Madison Ohnesorge (.375), Lauren Ohnesorge (.440), Boone (.384), Sydney Higgs (.571), Taylor Gottfriedt (.375), Haley Stewart (.190), Kaitlyn Smith (.250) and Josie Phillips (.160).
