The Teutopolis Lady Wooden Shoes' bid for the Class 2A state softball title fell short in East Peoria Saturday, with a 9-3 loss to Rock Island Alleman in the championship game.  The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Alleman scored single runs in the first inning and third inning to lead 2-0, a lead that stood until the top of the fourth, when the Lady Shoes took the lead on a three-run home run to center by Julie Wente.

Alleman bounced back in the bottom of the fifth, though, tying the game 3-3 on an inside-the-park home run by Lexi Ferrari, and then pulling out to a 5-3 lead on a two-run homer later in the inning by Mackenzie Sanchez. The final damage came in the sixth inning, when Alleman tacked on four more runs, including a home run by Molly Ethington, extending their lead to six.

Play was halted with one out in the top of the seventh inning when lightning was spotted. The field was cleared for 30 minutes as required by the IHSA, and play resumed after officials gave things an 'all clear'. Alleman worked around a two-out walk to Anni Borries to record the final two outs and claim the championship.

Pitcher Kadi Borries went the distance for Teutopolis, allowing the nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits, walking one and striking out three. The sophomore finishes the season with an 18-2 record.

Offensively for Teutopolis, here's the rundown:

Madison Cowman--two sacrifices; Anni Borries--walk; Allison Apke--single, run scored; Danielle Repking--single, hit by pitch, run scored; Julie Wente--home run, run scored, 3 RBI; MacKenzie Wermert--single; Raegan Drees--two walks
