Dieterich Softball Season Ends, EHS Drops DH

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School saw its season come to an end in its own Class 1A Softball Regional Wednesday.

The Movin' Maroons fell to Hutsonville/Palestine 5-0. The winners took a 2-0 first inning lead and tallied all five of its runs in the first three innings. Rariden had a double and an RBI while Patterson had a triple. Fulling chipped in with three singles and an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Brummer with a double and Vahling with a triple.

Hutsonville/Palestine will now meet Oblong at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Wayne City Regional

Woodlawn edged Odin 9-8 in the Wayne City Regional Thursday. Woodlawn will now face Wayne City at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

 

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Marshall came from behind to edge Casey-Westfield in the Warriors own regional Wednesday.

Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the fourth but Casey-Westfield came back with two runs in the sixth to pull ahead. Marshall then tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

Thompson had two doubles for the winners while A. Switzer had a double and E. Switzer a double and an RBI.

Casey-Westfield was led by Black with a single, home run and an RBI and Cutright with three singles.

Marshall advances to face Teutopolis for the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Cumberland moved into the champoinship of its own regional by blanking Danville Schlarman 4-0. The Pirates took a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied three more runs in the second.

Booker picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts to improve to 6-4.

The Pirates were led by Casey with a single, double and two RBI. Cumberland is now 20-9 and will meet Catlin/Salt Fork at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship.

At Salem

Effingham dropped an Apollo Conference doubleheader to Salem Wednesday.

In the first game, the Wildcats blanked the Hearts 2-0. EHS had one more hit than Salem. Shelby Nunamaker, Jenna Wirght and Kaylee Tonn had a single each for the Hearts.

In the second contest, Salem claimed an 11-0 victory. The Wildcats took a 7-0 first inning lead as Heather Henson had a grand slam. The game ended in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Katelyn Lybarger had a single and a double for the Hearts onlly hits.

EHS drops to 11-14 on the season and will host Belleville Althoff in a doubleheader Friday.
