C'land, SEB, Dieterich Claims Softball Victories

Cumberland High School captured a 10-2 win over Effingham in girls softball competition Wednesday evening.

The Pirates had 11 hits in the contest while Effingham committed six errors. Cumberland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Thornton had two singles and a triple while Booker had two singles and a double. Layton had two singles and an RBI. McMechan had a home run and drove in three runs.

Effingham was led by Shelby Nunamaker with a double, home run and two RBI.

At Greenup

At Ramsey

St. Elmo/Brownstown bounced Ramsey 14-1 in seven innings.

SEB edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead then added on two runs in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth before tallying four more in the top of the seventh.

Brown and Moss had three singles each. Brown added an RBI. Pruett had two singles and three RBI while Oberlink had a single, triple and three RBI.

SEB improves to 8-7 overall.

At Dieterich

Dieterich blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 6-0. The two teams went scoreless through the first three innings before the Movin' Maroons brought home two runs in the fourth.

Mallorie Vahling had a single, triple and two RBI for the winners while Bannick had a double and Ruholl two singles. Vahling picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with three strikeouts.

Heather Reed had BCCH's lone hit.
