Hearts, Trojans Split Wins, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School and Charleston split Apollo Conference softball victories Saturday.
Charleston edged the Hearts 2-1 in the opening contest. EHS held a 1-0 lead until the sixth when the Trojans brought home both runs to pull out the victory.
Brittany Beals had a solo home run for the Hearts while Shelby Nunamaker had a triple and Madison Weis a double.
Charleston won on a two-run homer by Ally O'Dell.
In the second contest, the Hearts tallied a 12-4 victory. The Hearts brought out the bats, finishing with 18 hits including 10 extra base hits.
Jenna Wright had a double, a three-run homer and ended with five RBI. Weis had two doubles and an RBI while Kaylee Tonn, Abby Meinhart and Gloria Rivera had a single and a double each. Meinhart and Rivera had an RBI each. Morgan Wilson had two singles, a double and three RBI and Hope Collier two singles, a double and an RBI. Beals added a double.
The Hearts are now 3-3 on the season.

At Pinckneyville
Teutopolis claimed two victories in the Pinckneyville Southern Softball Showcase Saturday.
In the opening contest, Pinckneyville took a 3-0 first inning lead and held that lead until the fourth when T-town tallied six runs and went on for a 12-6 victory.
T-town had 15 hits in the contest while Madison Cowman pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts. Cowman had two singles, a double and three RBI while Anni Borries and Kadi Borries had three hits and an RBI each. MacKenzie Wermert had a single, double and two RBI.
In the second contest, the Shoes took a 4-2 win over Massac County. The Shoes edged ahead 2-1 in the first then scored two runs in the fourth.
Allison Apke had a double, home run and two RBI for the winners while Danielle Repking had a double, home run and one RBI. Apke and Repking's home runs were back-to-back shots in the fourth.
The Shoes are now 12-0 on the season.
