Effingham Downs St. Elmo/Brownstown; Other Friday Scores

The Effingham Hearts softball squad posted a 6-3 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday at EHS.

Effingham scored two runs in the first inning, but St. Elmo/Brownstown posted a three-spot in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.  The Hearts bounced back to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and then scored three times in the sixth inning to secure the win.

Effingham scored six runs on nine hits while committing two errors.  SEB scored three runs on four hits and also had two miscues.

Hope Collier went the distance to post the win for Effingham and even her record at 2-2.  Collier allowed just one earned run on three hits and one walk while fanning eight hitters.  Baylee Scholes took the loss for SEB, allowing five earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate for Effingham, Abbey Meinhart tripled and doubled, Morgan Wilson singled twice and drove in two runs, Kaylee Tonn doubled and singled, Jenna Wright singled and drove in a run, Gloria Rivera doubled and Madison Weis singled.  Darby Moss, Morgan Brown, Dani Austin and Tiffany Austin each singled for SEB.

Effingham is 2-2 on the spring and takes on Charleston in doubleheader action today (4/12) at Charleston.

Teutopolis 10, Flora 0

The Lady Shoes remained unbeaten at 10-0 on the spring with the win over the Wolfgals.  T-Town scored single runs in the first and second before tallying twice in the third and adding six runs in the fourth to decide the game.  The Lady Shoes rolled up 14 hits.  Flora was held to two hits and committed three errors.

Madison Cowman went four innings to pick up the win, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out 10.  Smith pitched a perfect fifth inning to wrap up the game.  Hout took the loss for Flora, allowing nine runs in three innings of work.  Jennings pitched the fourth and gave up the other run.  Seven of the Shoes' runs were earned.

Allison Apke was 3-for-3 to lead Teutopolis, including a home run.  She scored twice and drove in two runs.  Anni Borries was 2-for-2 including a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.  Danielle Repking singled twice and drove in a run, Drees had two hits, scored and drove in a run, Smith had two hits and scored twice, and Cowman singled and scored, Kadi Borries doubled, scored and drove in a run, and Wente singled and scored.

Teutopolis won the JV game 14-1
