The Millikin University softball team hit six home runs to power to a doubleheader sweep of Illinois College Wednesday at Borg Warner Field in Decatur. The Big Blue won game one 7-2 and took the nightcap 10-2 in six innings.

Senior shortstop Meghan Matthews, who had two game winning hits and a home run Sunday, continued her hot-hitting clubbing two home runs in game one.
Matthews was 2-2 with three RBIs. Alyssa Visvardis, Abbie Tinnon and Rachel Kindred each collected two hits in game one. Kindred, Rachel Bishop and Marissa Padilla all had RBIs.

Taylor Hull was the winning pitcher in game one for Millikin allowing two earned runs over seven innings on eight hits while striking out six.

Millikin continued the home run barrage in game two. Visvardis homered to put Millikin on the scoreboard in the first inning. Tinnon and Beecher City graduate Hillary Shelton hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning. Shelton hit her second homer of the game, a two-run blast, in the sixth inning that ended the game by the run rule.

Matthews and Shelton became the 12th and 13th players in Millikin history to hit two homers in one game. Prior to this season, eight Millikin players had accomplished the feat. Four Big Blue players have now done it this season. Twenty-seven games into the season, the Big Blue have now broken the school record for home runs in a season with 23, breaking the record of 22 set in 2013.

Matthews was 3-4 with two RBIs in game two. Tinnon was 3-4 with two RBIs and Shelton was 4-4 with two homers, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Hull earned her second win of day on the mound improving to 13-4 on the season. She allowed six hits and two earned runs over six innings of work.

Millikin is now 16-9 on the season while Illinois College goes to 7-11.
