Teutopolis Wins Regional; Effingham Gets First Round Victory

Two local schools posted post-season victories over the weekend.

Teutopolis won its regional with a 3-1 victory Friday night over Newton.

Shoes goals were scored by Alex Deters, with an assist from Derek Deters, at 18:14 of the first half; and by Alex Deters at 3:44 of the first half. The Shoes picked up a goal from Linus Tanneryd at 37:10 of the second half on a penalty kick for a foul in the box.

The regional championship pushes the Shoes' record to 16-4-2 overall and advances them to the sectional semifinal against Riverton Tuesday at Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin at 6:30pm. That will follow the other semifinal contest between Alton Marquette and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin at 4:30pm.

Effingham won its first round 2A soccer regional game Saturday morning, downing Taylorville 9-0 in action at EHS. The remainder of the regional will be hosted by Mattoon.

Effingham advances to semifinal action Tuesday at 4:30pm vs. Chatham Glenwood. Mattoon plays Charleston at 6:30pm Tuesday in the other semifinal. 

Tuesday's winners will play Friday at 5pm for the regional championship.
