Teutopolis Downs St. Anthony Thursday, 3-1; Hearts Lose to Charleston

Teutopolis and St. Anthony squared off in high school soccer Thursday, with Teutopolis posting a 3-1 victory.
Linus Tanneryd of Teutopolis opened the scoring 25:56 into the first half on a penalty kick. Tanneryd scored again at 12:45 in the second half, and Derek Deters scored with 5:11 remaining on an assist from Alex Deters.
Reilly Ashton scored St. Anthony's goal with 13 minutes remaining in the half.
Teutopolis improved to 9-2 on the season.
Teutopolis won the JV contest 3-0.

Charleston downed Effingham 6-4 in Apollo Conference action Thursday.
Hearts Coach Weston Peno said watching his team in the second half as compared to the first half was like watching two totally different teams. Peno said, "The first half was slow for us defensively and we seemed disorganized on the field. This resulted in Charleston scoring a quick goal. From there, they possessed well and outworked our defense." By the end of the half, the score was 6-1.
Peno said the second half was the defining moment for EHS, though. He said, "We went out with our heads up high, and a fire in our hearts that changed the course of the game. From there, the Hearts worked hard and ran the ball, possessed it when needed, and made smart, consistent runs. They were not slowing down." Effingham scored three unanswered goals in the half.
For Effingham: Armando Estrada Angel--goal; Bryan Angel--goal; Osvaldo Angel--goal; Josh Bowlin--goal; Brandon Duncan--11 saves.
Charleston won the JV match 3-0.
