Newton Edges EHS, Altamont Falls in Soccer

Newton and Effingham players go after the ball during action Tuesday.

NEWTON -- Newton High School claimed a 2-0 victory over Effingham in soccer competition Tuesday.

"It was a well played game and both teams worked very hard, played well and fought for every goal," said EHS Coach Weston Peno. "We just didn't pull through."

 

At Breese

Breese Mater Dei played host to Altamont and claimed a 4-0 victory Tuesday.

Mater Dei took a 2-0 first half lead, scoring at 34:14 and 30:09. Mater Dei then tallied two more in the second half.

Altamont had one shot on goal. Kenny Robbins had seven saves.

Mater Dei had 17 shots, 11 on goal and one save.

Altamont is now 2-8-2 on the season.
