Eagles Claim Soccer Regional Title

ALTAMONT -- Newton High School claimed the championship of the Class 1A Altamont Soccer Regional Saturday.

The Eagles blanked Hillsboro, 4-0. Goals came from Toni Tortella and Ross Farley with two each. Cole Farley had one assist.

Newton advances to the Raymond Lincolnwood Sectional. The Eagles will face Riverton at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Park. In the second match, Quincy Notre Dame takes on Rosemond Faith Bible Christian Academy at 7. Riverton won its own regional by blanking Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 3-0.

 

St. Anthony Regional

Rosemond Faith Bible Christian Academy edged Effingham St. Anthony, 2-1 Saturday for the Bulldogs Regional championship.

With a minute remaining in the first half, St .Anthony's Wade Lawrence scored the first goal.

But FBCA came back to score three quick goals in the second half. With 10 minutes on the clock, Luke Swingler scored the Bulldogs second goal from a throw-in by Braeden Quandt. But it wasn't enough.

"I'm very proud of our team," said Coach Martin Reyes. "We played very hard against a very tough opponent. I am blessed to have coached this season with these kids and I'm looking forward to winning the regional championship next year.

"Our seniors played with a lot of heart and passion. Moises Lemus, Braeden Quandt, Jacob Blanchette, Quinton Milleville and Isaiah Daiber were key players in each of our games and we wouldn't have been in the championship without them."

Rosamond Faith Bible Christian Academy advances to the Raymond Lincolnwood Sectional Tuesday against Quincy Notre Dame, a 7-0 winner over Carlinville in the Carlinville Regional. Match time is 7 p.m.
