Mt. Zion Defeats Hearts 5-1 Thursday; St. Anthony Posts 7-1 Win; Altamont Wins

Effingham suffered a 5-1 loss to Mt. Zion in Apollo Conference action Thursday.

Cooper Jackson scored the lone Effingham goal. Ethan Boggs had five saves for the Hearts.

Mt. Zion won the JV game 3-0. Dylan Cunningham had eight saves.

St. Anthony posted a 7-1 win Thursday over Harrisburg.

In the first half, the Bulldogs got a goal with 23 minutes left from Will Swingler, assisted by Moises Lemus. Harrisburg scored with 20 minutes left to tie the game, but Moises Lemus scored with 17 minutes left to put the Bulldogs back in front 2-1. Braeden Quandt then scored twice for the Bulldogs, with 11 minutes remaining, assisted by Jacob Blanchette, and with one minute left, off a penalty.

In the second half, Lemus scored his second goal with 20 minutes left, from a penalty. Wade Lawrence scored with 15 minutes left, from a penalty. With eight minutes left, Quandt wrapped up the scoring, completing his second hat trick this week, assisted by Troy Brummer.

Bulldogs Coach Martin Reyes said, "Moises Lemus and Braeden Quandt continue to be key players on offense, while Quinton Milleville and Jacob Blanchette show their leadership in defense."

Altamont posted a 3-1 soccer win over Carlyle Thursday.

Altamont scored all three of its goals in the first half, two by Sebastian Thompson with 25:26 remaining and with 50 seconds left, while Isaac Crow scored with 21:18 remaining in the half. Carlyle got its goal with 38:15 left in the second half. Quinn Verdeyen had six saves in goal for Altamont, now 4-5 on the season. Altamont won the JV match, 3-1, to improve to 3-1 on the fall.
