T-town Opens With Losses at Red & Gold Soccer Invite

CHARLESTON -- Teutopolis High School opened play in the 21st Annual Charleston Red & Gold Soccer Invitational Wednesday.

T-town lost in varsity competition to Mattoon, 3-2. The Wooden Shoes goals came from Jason Kowalski and Alex Probst.

Mattoon's Jake Ghere had a hand in all three goals. He scored a goal with an assist by Alex Lensink then assisted on a goal by Devin Perry. Ghere then tallied the winning goal with an assist by Chase Monroe in the 50th minute.

The Shoes played Mattoon much tougher than earlier in the season. The Shoes lost to the Green Wave 8-0 on August 21.

In the other varsity match, Charleston beat Centralia 2-1.

Effingham will open play today with the varsity taking on Monticello at 4 p.m. and the junior varsity against Monticello at 5:30 p.m.
