ALTAMONT -- After a slow and bumping start throughout the whole first half, Altamont High School eescaped without a goal being scored against them in a 3-0 win over Carlyle in soccer action Thursday.

"We played with no life or fire in us," said Altamont Coach Lee Althoff. "Though we were outshooting Carlyle, 18-6, we just did not have much luster."

Altamont finally settled into its game in the second half.

"We gained life and momentum coming out from halftime. Jesus Flores scored within six minutes of the half and gave us a head of steam to gain intensity that was lacking in the first half. Then in the 22nd minute of the half, Jacob Crow got tackled in the penalty box by the goalie. We were awarded a penalty kick that Jesus buried in the back of the net giving him his second goal for the night.

"Jesus followed that up with another goal for his hat track with 6:28 left in the contest."

Altamont picked up its sixth victory on the season.

"That gives us motivation moving into a tough week. We will see matches Monday, Tuesday and Thursday playing Wesclin, Breese Mater Dei and Raymond-Lincolnwood."

Altamont had 31 shots, nine on goal. Sam Childerson had six saves. Carlyle had 10 shots, six on goal with six saves.
