Effingham, Altamont Win in Soccer Action

Effingham High School pushed its record to 11-2-1 on the season by blanking Olney in soccer competition Thursday.

The Hearts first goal came from Jason Pike with 3:49 left in the first half. Ivan Carrillo then scored at 21:01 in the second half on an assist by Austin Wenthe. EHS had 10 shots on goal and Dalton Steele had five keeper saves. Olney had five shots on goal and eight keeper saves.

The Hearts lost in the junior varsity match 1-0 to drop to 7-4-1 on the season.

Effingham is back in action today in the Mattoon Invitational Tournament taking on host Mattoon at 5:30 p.m.

At Altamont

Altamont's Brandon Walk scored the lone goal of the contest as the Indians edged Salem.

Walk tallied his goal at 38:00 on an assist by Ryan Mayhaus. The Indians took six shots, four on goal. Childerson had five saves.

Salem took seven shots, five on goal and had three saves.

Altamont has now won three in a row and improves to 4-8-1.
