Effingham's soccer squad continues to run through the opposition as the Hearts thumped Lebanon, 8-1 Monday evening.

Kohdai Nishida scored the Hearts first goal of the contest at 36:24. Ivan Carrillo tallied two straight goals to give the Hearts a 3-0 lead. Carrillo's first goal came at 30:55 on an assist by Caleb Gadberry. The second goal came at 28:46 with an assist from Jason Pike. The Hearts went to 4-0 at the half on a goal by Matt Steffen at 6:40.

In the second half, Steffen came back to open the scoring at 34:00 on an assist by Gadberry. Gadberry then assisted Pike at the 30:33 mark.

Lebanon scored it's lone goal at the 24:19 mark as Nick Utley tallied. The Hearts then scored two more goals with Pike at 22:59 on an assist by Carrillo and Austin Wenthe at 7:56 with an assist by Kyle Lustig.

EHS had 14 shots on goal. Dalton Steele had three keeper saves and Frankie Kasdorf one. Lebanon had five shots on goal with Daniel Pollard having six keeper saves.

The Hearts now improve to 10-2-1 on the season. The junior varsity teams played to a 0-0 tie. The Hearts are now 7-3-1. EHS is back in competition Thursday playing host to Olney.
