EHS Plays to 2-2 Tie; Altamont Falls

PANA -- Effingham High School and Pana played to a 2-2 tie in soccer competition Tuesday evening.

Pana's Andrew Rubolt opened the scoring in the first half with a goal. The Panthers then moved ahead 2-0 on a goal by Nil Copley.

Effingham came back within 2-1 in the opening half on a goal by Ivan Carillo. The Hearts tied the score on a goal by Matt Steffen in the second half. EHS took nine shots on goal and had two saves. Pana took four shots on goal with seven saves.

EHS is now 3-0-1 on the season.

In junior varsity play, Effingham was a 5-0 winner. Tyler Katz had two goals while Sean Zerrusen, Jacob Gadberry and Luis Ramos had a goal each. The Hearts are 2-2.

At Mattoon

Mattoon High School blanked Altamont/Beecher City 8-0.

Mattoon took a 3-0 lead in the first half scoring at the 1:18, 6:58 and 16:22 marks. In the second half, the Green Wave scored on a penalty kick then tallied at the 15:08, 18:27, 22:03 and 25:26 marks.

Altamont took eight shots, five on goal. The Indians had nine saves by goalkeeper Childerson. The opponents took 26 shots, 17 on goal and had five saves.

Altamont drops to 0-4-1 on the season.
