EHS Plays to 1-1 Soccer Tie, St. A, Altamont Win

SALEM -- Effingham High School played Salem to a 1-1 tie in soccer competition Thursday. Salem scored first on a goal by Evan Wilzbach with 4:55 into the first half.

That's where the scoring ended for the half. With 24:27 into the second half, Effingham's Michael Carie knotted the score on an unassisted goal.

Effingham had 10 shots on goal while Salem had four shots. Effingham's Frank Kasdorf had three saves. Salem had nine saves.

The Hearts are now 3-4-2 on the season and 0-0-2 in the Apollo Conference.

 

At Effingham

St. Anthony edged Olney 1-0. In the first half, the Tigers held St. Anthony to only three shots ending the half in a 0-0 tie. Then in the second half, the Bulldogs broke loose with 14 shots while holding Olney to five shots.

"What a beautiful day for soccer," said St. Anthony Coach Eric Morales. "Temperatures were just right. The sun was shining and the fans were loud. Coming into the game the guys told me they were ready and wanted to get their loss back from a previous game against Olney.

"Prior to the game I told the team to go out in the first hald and get comfortable and let Olney come at us strong. During halftime I told the team it was time to turn it up and go full throttle and they did. We played very, very hard and fast.

"Finally with three minutes left, Ryan Kruger took a beautufl pass from James Kabbes over the last defender and scored."

The junior varsity fell to Olney, 3-2. Lexi Mendella and Alex Deters were scorers for the Bulldogs.

 

At Raymond

Altamont edged Raymond Lincolnwood 2-1. The Indians took a 2-0 first half lead as Thomas Caravello scored the first goal. Alby Moreno came back to push the lead to 2-0.

Raymond-Lincolnwood scored its lone goal in the second half.

Altamont had seven shots, five on goal and five keeper saves by Childerson. Raymond Lincolnwood had 12 shots, six on goal and three saves. The Indians are now 3-8-1.

Iin a junior varsity match, Raymond Lincolnwood tallied a 1-0 victory. Altamont drops to 1-5.
