Capitals Clip Red Wings In OT
(Washington, DC) -- Alex Ovechkin scored the winning goal with 2:23 left in overtime as the Capitals clipped the Red Wings 6-5 to earn a split in the home-and-home series at the Verizon Center. It was Ovechkin's NHL-leading 39th goal of the season. Joel Ward tallied two goals and an assist while Jason Chimera had a goal and two helpers for the Caps, who won for just the third time in their last 12 games. Michal Neuvirth made 25 saves in the victory. Gustav Nyquist recorded his first career hat trick and also had an assist for the Wings, who beat the Caps 4-3 in a shootout on Friday in Detroit. Jimmy Howard allowed all six goals on 28 shots in the setback.
Jets Edge Canadiens
(Montreal) -- Despite coming out on the wrong side of the scoresheet on Sunday afternoon, Michel Therrien’s troops gave the Winnipeg Jets all they could handle. Literally. Pestering netminder Al Montoya with 31 shots while dishing out 26 hits in a 2-1 loss at the Bell Centre, the Canadiens did everything they could to stymie a streaking Jets squad that has been firing on all cylinders since Paul Maurice took over behind the bench back on Jan. 12, going 8-2-0 in their last 10 games.
Blackhawks Meet Kings Tonight
(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Blackhawks invade L.A. tonight to skate against the Kings from STAPLES Center. Chicago fell in a shootout at San Jose Saturday, its fifth loss in six games. The Kings come in having lost three straight and eight out of nine. The puck drops at 9:30.
