Junior High Meetings, Practices, Camps Scheduled

-- There will be an informational meeting for St. Anthony Junior High School boys baseball players and their parents Wednesday, July 25 at 6 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at St. Anthony High School. If there are any questions, phone Ken Cornell at 342-4688.
-- St. Anthony/Sacred Heart Junior High softball practice will begin Monday, July 23 at the St. Anthony High School softball field from 8-10 a.m. (M-F) Players from grades 6-8 are invited to attend. Players must have had a physical before being allowed to practice. If you are interested in playing and cannot attend practice Monday, contact Coach Crystal Tipton at 217-821-6422 or at email@example.com. First games are Saturday, August 4. In addition there will be a Parents Meeting Monday, July 23 at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony High School in the MPR. Parents are asked to bring their calendars with them so they will be able to sign up for the concession stand and scoreboard.
-- Effingham Junior High School softball tryouts will be held Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27 at the high school softball field. The tryouts will take place from 4-6 p.m. For more information, contact Lindsay Francis at 815-822-1185.
-- Effingham Junior Hearts Football Jamboree and Fundraiser will be held Saturday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Effingham High School Sports Complex. Spend the day cheering, eating and getting to see some hard-working individuals. Teams playing will be Effingham, Benton, Carbondale, Mount Vernon, Taylorville, Decatur, Centralia and Marion. All money raised goes back into the program. Effingham Junior Football League practices have been canceled Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 23, 24, 25.
-- There will be a player and parents meeting Tuesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Beecher City Grade School in the music room for all sixth through eighth-grade boys interested in playing junior high baseball. Coach Michael Nelson wants to meet with players and parents. Practice will be held at the park from 9-11 a.m. Athletes must bring proof they have had a sports physical on the first day of practice. The first game is August 11 in a tournament.
-- The junior high school softball practice was held Monday but due to lack of numbers, fifth-graders are now welcome to join the team. All fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-grade girls interested in playing junior high softball needs to report to Beecher City Park from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24. Athletes must have proof they've had a sports physical. If planning on playing but cannot be at the park on this day, phone Coach Wendte at 217-536-6541 and inform her. The first game is August 6.
-- St. Elmo Junior High School baseball first practice will be held Monday, July 30 at Deken Park. Equipment needed will be ball glove, ball hat and baseball pants or sweats. For questions, contact Coach Rincker at 217-821-0915 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Baseball Camp is July 23-26 at Deken Park. Price is $20 per child. Make check payable to SEHS and entries can be mailed to St. Elmo High School. Second through fifth graders are from 9-10:30 a.m. and sixth-ninth graders from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
-- There will be a North Clay Junior High School baseball meeting Monday July 23 at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the junior high. Those participating will go over team rules, practice schedule, game schedule, and uniforms. All players should plan to attend or make arrangements with Jason Lewis if they are unable to attend.
-- Junior high school girls basketball practice has been scheduled for Monday, August 27 at the middle school. Practice will begin at 3:30 p.m. All athletes must have had a physical before being allowed to practice.
-- There will be a junior high school baseball practice Thursday, August 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Current sports physical must be on file and activity fee must be paid before an athlete can participate.
