Sharks Squeeze Past Blackhawks In Shootout
(Chicago, IL) -- Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture each scored in the shootout for the Sharks in a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks from the United Center. Brent Burns tied the game midway through the third with his 14th goal of the year. Jason Demers also tallied for San Jose while Alex Stalock made 33 saves as the Sharks won their sixth in eight games. Niklas Hjalmarsson and Michal Rozival scored within minutes of each other early in the third to give Chicago the lead at 2-1. Corey Crawford made 40 saves in goal for the 'Hawks, who have lost three out of five.
Pens Edge Jets
(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Matt Niskanen scored the go-ahead goal with 7:22 to go in the third period as the Penguins edged the Jets 6-5 at CONSOL Energy Center. James Neal scored twice in 34-second span in the second. Neal and Evgeni Malkin both had two goals and an assist for the Pens, who have won 11 of their last 13 games and lead the Eastern Conference with 63 points. Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves in the victory. Evander Kane tallied two goals late in the second period and also had a helper for Winnipeg, which has lost three straight. Al Montoya allowed all six goals on 39 shots in defeat.
Hurricanes Edge Predators
(Raleigh, NC) -- Jeff Skinner's goal with three-and-a-half minutes to play in the game proved to be the winner in the Hurricanes' 2-1 victory over Nashville at PNC Arena. Skinner also assisted on Alexander Semin's first-period goal. Semin added an assist on Skinner's goal, and Tuomo Ruutu had a pair of assists. Anton Khudobin stopped 31 shots as the 'Canes won their fourth straight game. Carolina is 18-16-9. The Preds lost their third straight despite Patric Hornqvist's goal and Carter Hutton's 23 saves. Nashville is 18-19-6.
Oilers Trip Lightning
(Edmonton, Alberta) -- Edmonton snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay at Rexall Place. Jordan Eberle scored twice and Taylor Hall added a goal and assist for the Oilers. Matt Carle assisted on two of Tampa Bay's three goals. Tampa Bay rallied from a two-goal deficit with two second-period goals, one each for Victor Hedman and Valtteri Filpulla. The Oilers scored twice in the third period to get the win. Ilya Bryzgalov saved 24 shots for the Oilers, who improved to 14-26-and-5. Anders Lindback saved 21 of 25 shots for the Lightning but was replaced in the third period. Tampa Bay is 25-13-4 with losses in three of its last five games.
Blues Start Road Trip
(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Blues begin a three-game, Canadian road trip Tuesday night in Edmonton against the Oilers. The Blues improved to 29-7-5 Saturday with a win over the Blue Jackets. The Oilers defeated Tampa Bay 5-3 last night to improve to 14-26-5.
