Flames Down Blues In Shootout

(Calgary, Alberta) -- Joe Colborne had the lone goal of the shootout to send the Flames to a 4-3 win over the Blues at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Mark Giordano scored with five seconds left in regulation to force the extra time. Jiri Hudler and Mike Cammalleri also scored for Calgary while Reto Berra stopped 32 shots in the win. The Flames halted a four-game slide. Kevin Shattenkirk, Jaden Schwartz and Magnus Paajarvi scored for St. Louis in defeat.  Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves as the Blues lost their third in five games.


Blackhawks Turn Away Devils

(Chicago, IL) -- Patrick Sharp scored twice as the Blackhawks notched a 5-2 win over the Devils from the United Center. Nick Leddy had a goal and assist while Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell also scored.  Antti Raanta needed to make just ten saves for the victory as Chicago won its sixth in eight outings. Michael Ryder and Stephen Gionta each scored for New Jersey in defeat. Cory Schneider stopped 32 shots as the Devils lost their second in three games.


Sabres Slice Coyotes In OT

(Buffalo, NY) -- Mark Pysyk scored with just over a minute left in overtime to send the Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Coyotes at the First Niagara Center.  Pysyk's goal was actually a puck that deflected into the air and landed in the pants of Coyotes goalie Mike Smith, who then slid into the goal. Tyler Ennis tied the score with just under six minutes left in regulation while Ryan Miller stopped 36 shots in the win.  Buffalo has won three out of four. Martin Hanzal gave Phoenix the lead seconds into the second period. Mike Smith made 30 saves, but the 'Yotes lost for the fourth time in five games.


Rangers Squeeze Past Leafs In Shootout

(New York, NY) -- Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan each scored in the shootout to lift the Rangers in a 2-1 win over the Maple Leafs from Madison Square Garden.  J.T. Miller lit the lamp in regulation for New York, which has won two straight. Cam Talbot stopped 25 shots in the win  Nazem Kadri scored with less than a minute and a half to play in regulation to force extra time for Toronto. Jonathan Bernier made 42 saves in net for the Leafs, who have dropped four out of five and seven


Ducks Clip Caps On Late Goal

(Washington, DC) -- Hampus Lindholm lit the lamp with just over five minutes to play to send the Ducks to a 3-2 win over the Capitals at the Verizon Center.  Saku Koivu and Andrew Cogliano each had a goal and assist while Jonas Hiller made 17 saves for Anaheim. The red-hot Ducks have won nine straight. Mikhail Grabovski and Nicklas Backstrom gave Washington the early lead with first-period goals. Troy Brouwer assisted on each while Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves as the Caps lost their fourth in six games.


Blue Jackets Weather Hurricanes

(Raleigh, NC) -- Ryan Johansen and Jack Skille each scored within two minutes of each other in the third period to lift the Blue Jackets to a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes at PNC Arena. Artem Anisimov and Corey Tropp also scored for Columbus, which has won back-to-back games since a three-game slide. Mike McKenna made 30 saves in the victory. Jeff Skinner scored twice while Alexander Semin had a goal and assist for Carolina. Justin Peters turned away 21 shots as the 'Canes lost their third straight and sixth in seven games.


Anderson, Sens Blank Penguins

(Ottawa, Ontario) -- Craig Anderson stopped all 27 shots he faced as the Senators delivered a 5-0 shutout to the Penguins at the Canadian Tire Centre. It's Anderson's second shutout of the year and the 24th of his career. Erik Karlsson had a goal and two assists for Ottawa, which stopped a three-game slide.  Zack Smith, Bobby Ryan, Kyle Turris and Cory Conacher also scored for the Sens. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed all five goals on 29 shots for Pittsburgh. The Pens saw a seven-game win streak end.


Islanders Blank Red Wings

(Detroit, MI) -- Evgeni Nabokov stopped all 23 shots he faced to post his first shutout of the season as the Islanders blanked the Red Wings 3-0 at Joe Louis Arena.  Nabokov now has 56 shutouts in his career. All three New York goals came within a six-minute span late in the first period. Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner and Casey Cizikas all found the back of the net as the Isles won their second in three games. Petr Mrazek stopped 16 shots in net for Detroit.  The Wings had won two straight.


Lightning Blow Out Panthers

(Sunrise, FL) -- The Lightning scored six unanswered goals after falling down early to net a 6-1 win over the Panthers in South Florida. J.T. Brown lit the lamp twice in the third while Tyler Johnson, Valtteri Filppula and Martin St. Louis all found the back of the net in the second. Alex Killorn also scored for Tampa Bay while Ben Bishop stopped 28 shots. The Bolts have won five straight. Sean Bergenheim had the lone tally for Florida while Scott Clemmensen made 30 saves. The Cats have dropped two in-a-row since a five-game win streak.


Flyers Bring Down Wild

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Wayne Simmonds scored twice as the Flyers handed the Wild a 4-1 loss at the Wells Fargo Center. Simmonds lit the lamp on the power play and sealed the win with a late empty-net goal. Luke Schenn and Claude Giroux also scored while Jakub Voracek had two assists for Philadelphia. Steve Mason made 26 saves as the Flyers won their third in four games. Mikael Granlund had the lone goal for Minnesota while Niklas Backstrom made 27 stops in net. The Wild have lost three straight and five out of seven.


Bruins Dominate Preds

(Nashville, TN) -- Jarome Iginla scored twice as the Bruins notched a 6-2 win over the Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Carl Soderberg and Reilly Smith each had a goal and two assists while Matt Fraser and Brad Marchand also scored for Boston. Tuukka Rask stopped 32 shots as the B's won their third in four games.  Carter Hutton gave up two goals on four shots in the first six minutes and was pulled in favor of Marek Mazanec, who made 25 saves the rest of the way for the Preds. Craig Smith had both of Nashville's goals in defeat as the Predators lost their fourth straight.


Stars Down Kings

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Tyler Seguin had a goal and assist as the Stars notched a 5-2 win over the Kings at STAPLES Center. Jamie Benn added a goal and two assists while Valeri Nichushkin, Cody Eakin and Shawn Horcoff also scored for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 shots for the Stars, who have won three out of four. Justin Williams scored and assisted on Jarret Stoll's tally for Los Angeles. Martin Jones halted 19 shots for the Kings, who saw a three-game win streak end.


Sharks Edge Avs In Shootout

(San Jose, CA) -- The Sharks blew a late lead in regulation and then came back to tie before beating the Avalanche 5-4 in a shootout in San Jose. Erik Johnson and Jamie McGinn each lit the lamp in the final two minutes to give Colorado the lead before Joe Pavelski scored with 20 seconds left to tie.  Patrick Marleau scored the deciding goal of the shootout as San Jose won its third in four games. Jason Demers, Brent Burns and Matt Irwin also scored for the Sharks while Joe Thornton had three assists and Antti Niemi made 29 saves. Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog also scored for Colorado while Semyon Varlamov turned away 41 shots in defeat.  The Avs have lost three out of four.


Oilers Halt Losing Streak

(Edmonton, AB) -- The Edmonton Oilers halted a six-game losing skid with a big 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets to head into the holiday break on a high note. Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists while Jordan Eberle, Nail Yakupov and David Perron each had a goal and an assist. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added a pair of helpers in the win.
