Avery Braunecker Advances To State Swim Meet

Effingham High School's Avery Braunecker advanced to the State Swim Meet after capturing two first place finishes at the IHSA Sectional hosted by Urbana High School Saturday.

Braunecker competed in the 50 freestyle and won with a time of 23.56 seconds. She also claimed the championship of the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.51.

Nicole Homann also competed for the Hearts. Homann finished 15th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.14 seconds. She took 14th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:23.15.

Urbana University won the team championship with 231 points followed by Danville 165.5, Urbana 151, Central 124, Charleston 119, Centennial 118, Clinton 83, Sullivan 49.5, Champaign St. Thomas More 48, Mahomet-Seymour 43, Effingham 32, Moweaqua Central A&M 29, Mattoon 28, Tuscola 21, Fithian Oakwood 16, Shelbyville 16, Mount Zion 9, Olney 4 and Danville Schlarman 1.

Braunecker advances to the State Finals scheduled Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 at New Trier Winnetka.

Braunecker, a sophomore, is tied for the second best time in the state in the 50 freestyle with Mimi Schneider, a senior, from Oak Park Fenwick at 23.56. The best time turned in was by freshman Daria Pyshnenko of Lake Forest in 23.31.

Braunecker has the third best time in the state in the 100 freestyle at 51.51. Erin Falconer, a junior, from Mundelin has the best time at 50.16 while Gabby Sims, a senior, from Downers Grove North, has the second best in 51.19.
