Johnson Captures Sixth Sprint Cup Title

(Homestead, FL) -- Denny Hamlin captured victory in Sunday's Ford Eco Boost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but Jimmie Johnson's ninth-place finish was good enough to help him capture his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in eight years. Johnson says he's not looking ahead to another championship before enjoying his sixth.

Johnson came into the race needing a finish of 23rd or better to hold off Matt Kenseth, who finished 19 points back in the standings. Johnson is now one title shy of the record which is shared by Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr, who each have seven. Kenseth finished second in the race followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer.
