ALTAMONT -- Newton's Jared Finn grabbed two driving jobs in the final two races of the day Tuesday, won both and is now leading the driver's standings at the Effingham County Fair harness racing.

Finn and Altamont's Kyle Husted were behind Ronnie Gillespie in the driver's standings. Husted picked up a victory in the second race of the day, the 2 & 3-Year-Old Open Pace Colt Division.

Husted was behind Fox Valley Dijon and finished in 2:02 1/5 in an outstanding effort after trailing most of the way. American Desire, driven by Gillespie, moved from third to the lead at the quarter mile marker and led a sizzling first half in :59 1/5. In its first career start, Fox Valley Dijon came roaring down the stretch and ended up winning by three parts of a length on the line in 2:02 1/5. Husted's mother, Pamela Coleman, trains Fox Valley Dijon.

That put Husted and Finn into a tie for second with Gillespie leading the way with 19 points in the driver's standings.

Gillespie then took Zanny to victory in the third race, the 3-Year-Old Open Trot. Powerful Felix, driven by Darla Martin and Dreaming Of Lori, driven by Martin's brother, David Martin, were neck and neck down the stretch. But  Zanny came on the outside and then through the middle to pull out the victory in 2:06. That put Gillespie up by nine points in the driver's standings. It was Zanny's fourth victory of the year and ninth overall.

Gillespie had 24 points while Husted and Finn trailed with 15 each.

Then Finn grabbed a drive behind Monique's Hero in the fourth race, the Non-Winners $7,500 Lifetime Pace. Monique's Hero went to the front and was showing the way at the half mile marker. Monique's Hero took a two length lead at the stretch then pushed that to five lengths for the win in 2:07.1 for owner Diane Wilson of Martinsville.

Finn then got a drive in the Illinois Conceived & Foaled 6-Year-Old and Under Trot behind Wannabearockstar. Everyone started off well except Vento went offstride and then before long half the field had made breaks. Wannabearockstar and Poppy Gram were the only two who hadn't gone offstride. Wannabearockstar took a 1 1/2 length lead at the three quarter marker. Majestic Emotion came after the lead but Wannabearockstar and Finn won by five lengths in 2:09 2/5.

Those two victories put Finn in the lead of the driver's standings with Gillespie second and Husted third.

In the opening race of the day, the 2 & 3-Year-Old Open Pace Filly Division, Cassidy Melloy took Hoosier Chatter to victory in 2:00.2 It was the second win of the week for the Edwards County High School graduate and the best time of the week.

Harness racing continues Wednesday with seven races on tap and a 1 p.m. posttime.
