Blackhawks Grab OT Win Over Wild
(Chicago, IL) -- Viktor Stalberg fed Bryan Bickell for the game winner in overtime to hand the Blackhawks a 2-1 win over the Wild in Game One of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. Marian Hossa tied the game with a power-play tally early in the second period for Chicago, which won the Presidents' Trophy this year. Corey Crawford made 26 saves in the win. Josh Harding was forced into a start in the cage for Minnesota after Niklas Backstrom was injured during warmups. Harding stopped 35 shots in defeat. Cal Clutterbuck gave the Wild a lead less than five minutes into the game. Game Two of this series is Friday.
Steen's Shorty Sends Blues Past Kings In OT
(St. Louis, MO) -- Alexander Steen stole the puck from goaltender Jonathan Quick behind the net and scored shorthanded in overtime to give the Blues a 2-1 win over the Kings in Game One of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. Kevin Shattenkirk had just taken a four-minute penalty for a high stick before the goal. Steen also opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the game for St. Louis. Brian Elliott made 28 saves in the victory. Justin Williams tied the game with 32 seconds in regulation after Los Angeles had pulled its goalie for an extra attacker. Quick turned away 40 shots in defeat for the defending champion Kings. Game Two of the series is Thursday.
Ducks Clip Red Wings In Game One
(Anaheim, CA) -- Teemu Selanne scored on the power play early in the third as the Ducks went on to a 3-1 win over the Red Wings in Game One of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. Francois Beauchemin locked things up late with an empty netter for Anaheim, which grabs a 1-0 series lead. Nick Bonino also scored on the power play for the Ducks while Jonas Hiller turned away 21 shots in the win. Daniel Cleary lit the lamp on the power play for Detroit to tie things in the first period. Jimmy Howard made 24 stops for the Red Wings. Game Two of the series is Thursday.
Wild Lose Backstrom To Injury In Warmups
(Chicago, IL) -- The Wild were without starting goaltender Niklas Backstrom in their Game One loss to the Blackhawks Tuesday. The netminder was injured during warmups and was replaced by Josh Harding, who stopped 35 shots in defeat. Minnesota played the game without a backup goalie. Backstrom's status going forward is unknown.
