EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - At a dinner ceremony Monday night, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville honored Cougar student-athletes for their accomplishments away from the playing surface.

Awards were given to those individuals from SIUE's 18 sports who were members of the spring or fall Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, members of the 2012-13 spring and/or fall term Dean's List, inductees into Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society, and Cougar Cadre Award winners.

In addition, six Cougars received the OVC Medal of Honor, given annually to student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in an OVC-sponsored sport for all 12 conference schools.

Academic All-Conference performers include student-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better, have attained a 3.40 GPA in each of the two preceding terms, or are first-year student-athletes with a 3.40 GPA in their first term. The Dean's List recognizes students who have a 3.5 GPA in any term and have passed at least 12 hours of classes.

The National College Athlete Honor Society of Chi Alpha Sigma is an honorary athletic society for recognition of high academic achievers and sports letter winners. Inductees must have a 3.4 GPA, have earned a varsity letter, and have junior or senior status. The Cougar Cadre Award was developed by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is given to one member per team selected by his or her peers. Cougar Cadre Award winners must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 and have earned a varsity letter.

Other SIUE student-athletes received Four-Year Participation Awards, given to athletes who were four-year athletes and completed their eligibility in the 2012-13 school year.  Cougar Participation Awards were also given to student-athletes who completed their eligibility in the 2012-13 school year after 1-3 years as athletes at SIUE.
