Effingham Community Unit #40 Athletic Department is proud to announce that two of its coaches have earned recognition in the All-South Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization (FCA).

Head baseball coach Chris Fleener and junior high coach Rod Wiethop were recognized Monday night during the Huddle Leader Banquet at Greenville College. This annual banquet provides the FCA organization the opportunity to recognize individuals involved with FCA and more than 500 supporters, leaders and participants were in attendance.  Attendees included both coach's families, friends and peers as well as long time Nebraska football coach, athletic director and FCA supporter, Dr. Tom Osborne.

Each coach received the Keith Hall Huddle Leader of the Year Award. This award has been given for the last six years and was presented by Dr. Tom Morgan of the FCA.   The recognition is for Coach Fleener's and Coach Wiethop's long time and continued leadership in the FCA.

Both coaches were involved in the revival of the Effingham Community Unit #40 huddle groups in their respective schools nine years ago and have hosted the FCA Power Sports Camp. This camp has been held at Effingham High School for fifth through eighth grade student athletes for the last five years.

Jason Becker of Stewardson-Strasburg won the $1,000 annual FCA scholarship. Other nominees were Abbey Marten of Beecher City and Lauren Horn of St. Anthony.

Dennis and Ann Schultz-Deters were the Jenner award recipients for opening the door to FCA in Effingham County. A past recipient of this award was local businessman Chuck Keller for his support of FCA.

The dates for the 2013 Sixth Annual summer camp are June 17-19.  For more information on this years camp, contact the high school.
