SPRINGFIELD -- The St. Anthony boys and girls bowling teams were in action this past Saturday, competing in the Abe Lincoln Invitational hosted by Taylorville High School at Laketown Lanes in Springfield.
"We had some really good performances Saturday," said Coach Phil Zaccari.
Junior, Neil Ritz again averaged nearly 200 per game including an impressive 265, to place 14th individually. Liam Andrews also scored over 1,100 placing 22nd individually.
"As a team we did much better getting our spares but had trouble closing out the tenth frame," said Zaccari. "The boys team moved up five spots from last year to finish ninth, so the hard work is showing overall improvement.
"Our women's team showed great improvement from the previous week as all our game scores topped the 500 point total with one game even breaking 600. Last week at Collinsville we did not break the 500 point barrier. Senior, Kassy Dammermann led us breaking the 900 pin barrier which included a personal best 208 to place 26th individually. Natalie Goeckner also added a personal best 148.
"We finished 13th overall, so again, the hard work in practice seems to be paying off. We have a busy week with matches at Mt. Vernon Monday and then our home openner with Centralia Thursday. Hopefully, our improvement will continue as we face these established programs."
