HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s “Walk With a Doc” on Saturday, December 21 to focus on mental health

Held at Workman Sports and Wellness Complex; Meet in St. Anthony’s Physical Rehab and Wellness Area prior to walk

Want to stay active this holiday season? Then join HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital at their next monthly “JustWalk™” Walk With a Doc walking program on Saturday, December 21 at 9 a.m. at the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex at 1301 North Maple Street, Effingham. To participate in this Walk With a Doc event, you do not have to be a member of the Workman Sports Complex. Walkers should meet in St. Anthony’s Physical Rehab and Wellness area, which is immediately to the left as you enter the front entrance of the complex.

There will be a brief presentation prior to the walk. Andrea Cutler, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), will talk about physical activity as a protective factor for mental health. Cutler provides outpatient behavioral health care at HSHS St. Anthony’s outpatient clinic located at Heartland Human Services.

Following the brief talk, walkers will enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating walk on the walking track with St. Anthony’s Chief Medical Officer Ryan Jennings, MD, and other health care professionals who will provide support to the walkers and answer questions during the walk.

Get your family moving and join the health care providers of HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for a morning walk focused on fun, health and meeting new friends.  This is a free program and pre-registration is not required.

Walks are held monthly, on the third Saturday of each month.  During the winter months (November through March) and when there is inclement weather, the walks will be held at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex.  In the spring, summer and fall seasons (April through October), the walks will be held at outside locations.

For cases of inclement weather, please check the hospital’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/StAnthonysMemorialHospital or listen to local radio stations for notices about cancellation or changes in location.

“Walk With a Doc” was created by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist who practices at Mount Carmel Health Systems in Columbus, OH and he has been walking every weekend since 2005. The expansion and support of the program are thanks to Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
