Nearly 2 million people living in the United States have experienced limb loss, according to the Amputee Coalition, a national nonprofit patient advocacy organization for people affected by limb loss.

Over half are a result of vascular disease (including diabetes and peripheral arterial disease). Other causes include trauma and cancer. It is estimated that by 2050, 3.6 million people in the U.S. will be living with limb loss.

To serve these patients and their caregivers, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital proudly welcomes a new support group. The Central Illinois Amputees Support Group will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at HSHS St. Anthony’s Health Center, Building B, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 900 West Temple Avenue in Effingham.

The first meeting is Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

Central Illinois Amputees openly invites individuals living with limb loss and limb difference and their family members, friends and caregivers as well as people facing a scheduled amputation. Our support network strives to assist amputees in achieving optimal wellness in body, mind and spirit through support, education, advocacy and prevention.
