A Summer Read Kickoff Party will be held at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Public Library on Friday, May 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the start of the library’s summer read challenge.

The Kickoff Party, will feature a Super Hero theme for a variety of games, crafts and prizes for children, as participants visit a variety of activity stations to complete different Super Hero themed tasks and earn an ice cream reward. Whether climbing over the Spider-Man obstacle course, making Incredible Hulk slime or designing and making superhero masks and shields, participants are sure to have lots of fun.

Other activities at the event include free popcorn in self-decorated bags and Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen for those that complete their Super Hero Training, while supplies last.

The Kickoff Party, which is free and open to everyone, is the launch event for the library’s summer reading challenge, “It’s Showtime at Your Library!” The Effingham Park District will provide an obstacle course as well as information about all the activities available through the Park District over the summer.

The Library’s Summer Read Challenge runs from May 15 to July 15 and is open to young readers ages birth to 18 years. Registration for the program is available through the library’s Summer Read website that makes registering easy for families with just one account and one login for each family. “Families have been telling us just how much they love the website and the new Beanstack Tracker App that goes with our Summer Read Challenge and how easy it is to use and log their children’s reading. In the first 2 weeks of May well over 500 children have already enrolled in Summer Read and we’re expecting nearly 1,500 to sign up this year.” explained Catherine Bailey, Programming Outreach Manager. Effingham Public Library 200 N. Third St. | Effingham, Illinois 62401 P: 217.342.2464 | F: 217.342.2413 | W: www.effinghamlibrary.org

Through the Beanstack Tracker App families can log all their children’s reading, even simultaneously if they want, making taking part in Summer Read even easier and more convenient. A library card is not needed to participate in the summer reading program or any of the programs at the library. Enrollment in the program is available anytime until the end of the reading challenge and can even be backdated on the library’s website at www.EffinghamLibrary.org/read.

Anyone needing assistance in registering for the program may contact the library at 217-342-2464 ext. 1 or can stop by the Summer Read Desk in the Children’s Department.
