Focus on Effingham Public Library at CASP (Community Area Service Providers) Monthly Meeting

Community Area Service Providers met on Tuesday, March 6 in the University of Illinois Extension Office Basement Meeting Room.  25 attendees from various nonprofits and service organizations throughout East Central Illinois shared updates during this professional networking opportunity.

Susan Wilson, Literacy Coordinator for CEFS and President of CASP, opened the meeting and welcomed featured organization Effingham Public Library.  Johnna Schultz, Assistant Director, presented for the library.

Johnna shared that the library is open to anyone.  Anyone can attend programs, use the space or computers available at the library.  The only time a library card is necessary is when taking an item home.

In the spring of 2017, the library completed a community survey “Libraries Transform Communities.”  The information gathered through this survey was used to create the new mission, vision and values for the library as well as build the new strategic plan.

More information about the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Effingham Public Library can be found at the library’s website:  www.effinghamlibrary.org/strategic-plan/.

In the theme of spring and growing yourself professionally, Johnna shared a list of resources that the library management staff have read and recommend to others.

Books include:  The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon, The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier, You are a Badass by Jen Sincero, 5 Roles of a Master Herder by Linda Kohanov, Finding Space to Lead by Janice Marturano and Mindfulness for Beginners by Jon Kabat-Zinn while Fast Company is a magazine that the team recommends reading.

All of these titles are available for check out at the Effingham Public Library.

The April meeting of CASP is set for Noon on Tuesday, April 3 with guest organization, CEFS Hardest Hit.
