St. Anthony's boys golf team was in ninth place after the first day of the boys state tournament Friday and stayed there Saturday.

The Bulldogs finished ninth at state with a two-day total of 675.

Here's the breakdown by player:

Connor Greene shot a 79 Saturday for a total of 166, Jared Hutchison shot an 83 for a total of 171, Garrett Hixenbaugh shot an 85 for a 167 total, Nick Wortman shot a 91 for a total of 172, Sam Wortman shot a 94 for a 181 total, and Jeff Niebrugge shot a 93 for a total of 184.  Greene, Hutchison, Hixenbaugh and Nick Wortman had the counting scores Saturday.

"State is usually about surviving conditions and putting," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari "We did okay on the conditions, not so well on the putting. We competed hard, but took too long to adjust to the speed and slope of the greens. Connor Greene and Jared Hutchison adjusted the best the second day. Nick Wortman also played well except for his last hole. I think he was trying to make something happen and played a little risky but overall he did okay. This will be his only appearance at the state finals and he did fine.

"Garrett played good from tee to green and probably deserved a better fate. He had a lot of putts lip out both days. That is the area of his game he will really focus on for next season. Sam and Jeff got to experience state for the first time and the experience alone will help them for next season."

Meanwhile, Effingham junior Morgan Wilson shot better Saturday and finished higher in the standings at state than where she finished Friday.

Wilson shot an 83 Saturday and finished with a 170 total, good for 32nd place at the tournament.  She had shot an 87 on Friday and was in 44th place at the time.
