Hearts, Bulldogs Compete at Charleston Invitational; Other Friday Golf

Effingham finished fourth and St. Anthony finished sixth at the Charleston Invitational Friday at Charleston Country Club.
Charleston won the event with a 309 team total; Effingham finished with a 317 total and St. Anthony finished with a 325 total in the 15-team meet.
Effingham junior Jake Linders continued his recent torrid pace, firing a 71, good for a tie for second place overall, four shots behind Charleston's Christian Khachetorian. Linders had a 34 out and 37 in for his 71. Junior Jackson Wendling shot a 79, out in 37, freshman Callaway Smith shot an 83, and sophomore Reed Schafer shot an 84.
Effingham is now 8-2 on the season.
Garrett Hixenbaugh led the way for St. Anthony with a 74, good for fifth place individually, out in 35 and in in 39. Connor Greene shot a 79, out in 36, Jared Hutchison shot an 85 and Jeff Niebrugge shot an 87 to post counting scores for the Bulldogs.

In girls' golf Friday, St. Anthony defeated Teutopolis, 186-205, at Effingham Country Club.
St. Anthony's Mariah Bushue was medalist, shooting a 40. Other counting scores for St. Anthony: Madison Bushue--46, Abbie Schmidt--48, and Kelsie Dust--52.
Haley Giles led Teutopolis with a 48 and Casey Willenborg shot a 50. Also counting for Teutopolis: Ellie Ruholl--53 and Katie Thoele--54.
St. Anthony improved to 10-1 on the fall.
