EHS Boys Down Charleston, Area Golf Roundup

Effingham High School claimed a 146-161 boys golf victory over Charleston Tuesday.

Co-medalists were Effingham's Jackson Wendling, a junior, and freshman Callaway Smith with a 35 each. Also scoring were Jake Linders 36 and Reed Schafer 40. Non-counting scores were Sean Sandifer 45, Brandon Dahnke 52, Michael Woltman 54 and Matt Linders 60.

"The guys plated great tonight putting up a 146 which is one of the lowest scores we have had at the country club since it was redone," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Jackson, Callaway and Jake all had great rounds for us and Reed had his lowest nine-hole score so far this year. This was Jackson's fifth time in a row being medalist. We have a big week with two more matches and the Charleston Tournament Friday."

Charleston's scores came from Gabe Cox 38, Cody Horn 38,  Alex Gowin 41 and Coleman Engeles 44. Non-counters were AJ Thomas 46, Drew Dillon 47 and Kurt Smith 49.

Effingham is now 5-2 on the season while Charleston is 15-3.

In a girls match, Pana tallied a 207 followed by Mount Zion 208 and Effingham 219 at the Effingham Country Club.

Medalist was Mount Zion's Ashley Miller with a 39. Also scoring for the Braves were Elizabeth Bird 54, Jessica Ames 55 and Katie Bowman 60.

Competing for the winners were Hannah Miller 47, Meredith Epley 49, Hannah Michael 53, Emily Hackler 58, Mirranda Foster 59 and Rebecca Miller 61.

Scoring for the Hearts were Morgan Wilson 47, Alex Brummer 54, Hope Collier 57 and Madison Weis 61. Non-counting was Kaylee Tonn 76.

 

At Teutopolis

Robinson came calling for a boys meet and handed Teutopolis a 148-169 loss. The Wooden Shoes drop to 7-6 overall.

Tom Goodman was the medalist and leader for Robinson with a 34. Also scoring were James Gibson 35, Alex Brown 38 and Tristen Murphy 41. Non-counters were Hunter Givens 47 and Jeff Darnola 53.

Scoring for T-town were Ryan Sandschafer 39, Chad Zerrusen 40, Kyle Brumleve 43 and Evan Schlink 47. Non-scorers were Christian Deters 48 and Justin Kowalski 51.

In a Monday match, the T-town girls placed third in a four-team meet. Winning was Pana with a 198, Williamsville 202, Teutopolis 225 and Greenville 241.

Teutopolis -- Casey Willenborg 48, Ellie Ruholl 54, Haley Giles 57, Katie Thoele 66 and Lea Thoele 71.

At St. Elmo

Flora handed Altamont a loss in golf action at the St. Elmo Country Club Tuesday, 167-186.

Medalist was Flora's John Casolari with a 35. Also scoring for the winners were Robert Casolari 39, Nick Trotter 46 and Dylan Woodrow 47. Non-counting scorers were Zach Allison 52 and Rose Collins 65.

Counting for Altamont were Adam Mayhaus 46, Justin McGinnis 46, Griffin Jackman 47 and Logan Deadmond 47. Non-counting was Cameron Jackman 52.
