A windy day proved a problem for the Effingham boys golf team during Day 1 play at the Mattoon Invitational.

Hearts Coach Jeff Schafer said, "This was as hard as I have ever seen Meadowview play.  The wind may it very difficult as some holes it was a three-club wind.  If we could throw out the 18th hole, which we played as a team 12 over par we would still be in a very good spot.  Ever though we didn't play our best golf, we really hung in there."

Junior Jake Linders led the way for Effingham with a 78 including a 36 on the front.  Schafer said, "Jake had a nice round on a day where anything in the 70s was a good score."

The other counters were junior Jackson Wendling with an 82, freshman Callaway Smith with an 84, and junior Sean Sandifer with a 91.  Wendling had a 37 on the front.

Sophomore Reed Schafer and junior Brandon Dahnke each shot a 99.
