St. A Wins Own Golf Sectional, Advances With Area Golfers To State

Effingham St. Anthony captured the Class 1A Golf Sectional and is headed to State.

Effingham  St. Anthony won its own Class 1A Boys Golf Sectional Monday at the Effingham Country Club.

The Bulldogs tallied a 307, way ahead of second place Litchfield with 332 followed by Marquette Catholic 338, Anna-Jonesboro 342, Gibault Catholic 347, Father McGivney Catholic 348, Mount Carmel 352, Chester 355, Nashville 370, Trico 372, Okawville 381 and Robinson 387.

The top three teams along with the top10 individuals, not members of qualifying teams, advance to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday and Saturday at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.

St. Anthony, Litchfield and Marquette will advance as teams.

St. Anthony's Coen Pennington finished second with a 35-40 -- 75 along with teammate Jonathan Willenborg with 37-38 -- 75. Lane Ludwig finished fifth with a 37-39 -- 76, Preston Phillips had 40-41 -- 81, Joey Trupiano with 40-46 -- 86 and Michael Martelli with 46-40 -- 86.

Vandalia's Conner McCall was medalist with a 73 and advances as an individual.

One other area competitor advanced as an individual and that was Altamont's Avery Jahraus who finished with an 82.

Teutopolis had two players competing, Ethan Thoele who finished with an 84 and Kole Ohnesorge who finished with a 102.

Newton's Grant Fulton finished with a 121.

 

Class 1A Mason City Illini Central Sectional

Windsor/Stewarsdon-Strasburg's Rylan Rincker competed at the Mason City Illini Central Sectional but failed to advance.

Rincker shot a 100.

Winning the sectional was Monticello 327 followed by Illini West 331, Roanoke-Benson 334, Bloomingtton Central Catholic 338, Williamsville 339, Waverly 340, PORTA 347, Peoria Christian 351, Heyworth 365, Rushville-Industry 373, Decatur St. Teresa 374 and Cuba 382.

Medalist was DJ Norman from Roanoke-Benson with a 74.

Advancing were Monticello, Illini West and Roanoke-Benson as teams along with the top 10 individuals.

 

Class 2A Waterloo Sectional

Effingham High School's Colby Haynes competed in the Waterloo Sectional but did not advance.

Haynes finished with an 88.

Benton won the sectional with a 296 followed by Mattoon 315, Glenwood 316, Belleville Althoff Catholic 318, Richland County 324, Charleston 330, Waterloo 341, Highland 343, Carterville 347, Massac County 349, Breese Mater Dei 350, Bethalto Civic Memorial 354 and Troy Triad 357.

Medalist was River Stilley of Benton with a 72.
