SALEM -- Effingham St. Anthony High School captured second place at the Class 1A Salem Girls Golf Sectional Monday.

Mount Carmel won the team title with 312 strokes followed by the Bulldogs with 321. Following the top two were Massac County 335, Marquette Catholic 340, Columbia 364, Waterloo 374, Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher 385 and Bethalto Civic Memorial 392.

Scoring for St. Anthony were Morgan Schuette seventh with 79, Reagan Westendorf eighth with 79, Macy Ludwig 10th with 80 and Lauren Schwing 15th with 83. Also competing but not scoring for the Bulldogs were Ellie Wegman 26th with 88 and Nina Hakman 44th with 96.

Effingham High School's Ava  Boehm captured fourth place with a 75 while Anna Sigg was 32nd with a 92.

Teutopolis High School's Averie Bushue took 12th with an 83.

"Averie concluded an outstanding season and a great career at Teutopolis," said Coach Craig Toler. "She was second in the Apollo Conference Tournament and named All-Apollo, fourth in the St. Anthony Invitational, sectional qualifier and 12th place at the Salem Sectional Tournament."

This year's golf sectionals are as high as teams and players can advance. Since the St. Anthony Bulldogs placed second as a team, they would have advanced to State as would have Effingham's Ava Boehm.
